ETTRICK, VA- The Elizabeth City State Volleyball team (12-11, 9-2 CIAA) traveled to Ettrick, Virginia on Thursday, to face the Virginia State Trojans (7-12, 6-5 CIAA). The Vikings would defeat the Trojans in 4 sets (25-20, 20-25, 25-9, 25-16).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Set- The first set would be started by the Vikings jumping out to a 7-2 lead. The Trojans would quickly respond and secure one lead change during this set, but would eventually be outlasted by the Vikings to a score of 25-20.
2nd Set- The Trojans would outperform the Vikings in the second set. Sophomore, Andrea Rose, would lead the team in this set. The Vikings would record 15 kills but would also tally 8 errors and fall in the second set to a score of 20-25.
3rd Set- Simone Newell and Elizabeth Kellum would lead the Lady Vikings in the third set. The Vikings would start with a 10-1 lead and not look back, capturing the third set 25-9.
4th Set- In the evening's final set, the Lady Vikings would throw a block party getting blocks from Clarke Blakemore, Andrea Rose, and Elizabeth Kellum. The Vikings would take this set 25-16.
The Vikings return to action on Friday, October 20, at the Vaughan Center to face the Braves of UNC Pembroke. The first serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
