The Volleyball Vikings secure 3 Victories in the round-up

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 ELIZABETH CITY, NC – The Elizabeth City State Vikings Volleyball team finished 3-1 at the CIAA round-up over the weekend claiming victories over Winston-Salem State, Livingstone, and Johnson C. Smith. The Vikings would drop a match to Shaw on Sunday.

The Vikings are now 11-11 (8-2 CIAA).

How it happened vs. Winston-Salem State (25-20, 25-23, 27-25)
The Vikings would open the weekend facing off with the Rams of WSSU. The Vikings would open the round-up slowly but quickly got into gear, the Vikings would capture the first set 25-20 and not look back.

How it happened vs.Livingstone (25-12, 25-15, 25-13)
The Vikings would secure the sweep in their second match against the Blue Bears in three straight sets. The Vikings would record 26 digs and 31 kills. Clarke Blakemore, Destinee Davenport, and Elizabeth Kellum would all record blocks in the match.

How it happened vs. Johnson C. Smith (25-15, 26-24, 25-16)
The Vikings would wrap up the weekend with a victory over the Claflin Panthers in three straight sets. After a commanding first set, the Panthers would rally and have the Vikings on the ropes scoring 9 consecutive points but thanks to a service error the Vikings would get back on track, and come back to win 26-24 in the second set. Vikings would dominate the final set and win 25-16.

How it happened vs. Shaw (17-25, 30-28, 15-25, 22-25)
In the weekend's main event, the Lady Vikings would face off with the Shaw Bears in a thriller that would end in heartbreak. The Bears would take the first set on impactful hitting and strategic assists. The Vikings would answer in the second set taking the Bears to the wire but securing the set 30-28. Nylissa Snagg would be an impact player for the Vikings making some key attacks. Clarke Blakemore and Andrea Rose would be defensive leaders during the match recording 5 blocks individually. Shaw would control the final two sets defeating the Vikings.

The Vikings return to action on the road against Virginia State on Thursday, October 19. The first serve is at 6 p.m.
