Rouse leads Vikings in victory over Virginia State in 5-set thriller 3-2

Jada captures a career best 16 kills

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.- Sophomore outside hitter Jada Rouse completed a season high and career best 16 kills in the Vikings 3-2 win over Virginia State in five sets at the Vaughan Center on Monday night.  Rouse also checked off seven digs and lead the night in scoring on both sides with 17 points.

Victoria White was not far behind with nine kills; five of which were scored in a back-to-back series battle at the net. Elizabeth Kellum showed up again posting a double-double of her own with 14 assists and 12 digs.

Sophomore setter Kayleigh Sullivan was the backup behind those kills and showcased some amazing ball control tallying 27 assists. Naijya Leggett gave great effort on both sides of the ball; her six aces and 17 digs helped transform the Vikings control of the ball game in the final set while an outstanding net defense from freshman middle blocker Clarke Blakemore produced six solo blocks.

Although the error count went to nine in the fourth set, the Vikings managed to rebound quickly going on a 7-0 run only committing one error in the final set. The team collectively outscored the Trojans by 18 points and held them to only six blocks while amassing 10 aces throughout the match. The Vikings improve to an 13-7 season while positioning themselves undefeated in conference play at 7-0. The Trojans fall to .500 on the regular season and suffer their second loss in CIAA matchups. "What a battle tonight!" exclaims Head Coach David Brooks, "That game is a game you definitely get to see some of the best northern division volleyball and hate to see either side lose, but our strength in the non-conference spurt helped us come out victorious tonight; we are very proud to have been battle-tested to 7-0 in the CIAA tonight".

The Vikings hit the road for a while including their next stop this weekend in Raleigh, NC to face-off against three cross divisional opponents: St. Augustine's at 9 a.m, Winston-Salem State at 3 p.m. on Saturday, and will close out the weekend against Johnson C. Smith at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
