Vikings Volleyball Sweeps Mid-Atlantic Christian 3-0, Improving to a 5-Game Win Streak

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Vikings Volleyball swept Mid-Atlantic Christian University in three sets Monday night in the R.L. Vaughan Center (25-11, 25-8, 25-8).

The Vikings improved to an 8-2 overall record.

Freshman Mariah Griffin (Virginia Beach, VA) led the Vikings with eight kills, while senior Asia Jones (Rocky Mount, NC) added 20 assists. The Vikings had an overall .390 hitting percentage for the night and ECSU outplayed MACU in every statistical category.

"It was another good win tonight, and the girls are on a roll," said head coach David Brooks. "Five in a row now. We were able to get everyone some playing time which helps heading into CIAA play next week."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1: The Vikings set the night's tone by scoring the first point of the match with a kill from outside hitter junior Aasia McNeil (Statesville, NC). ECSU executed the offensive game plan exceptionally in the first set, out-hitting Mid-Atlantic .433 to .043 and winning the set 25-11.

Set 2: The Vikings continued to play aggressively in the second set. There were a few hitting errors early on in the set, but the Vikings quickly shook it off, pulling ahead 12-5 before forcing Mid-Atlantic to use a timeout. Out of the timeout, the Vikings went on an explosive scoring run ending the set at 25-8.

Set 3: The Vikings maintained a 9-0 scoring run with freshman Kennedy Jackson behind the service line to create a 12-4 scoring gap. Multiple Vikings saw big plays during the next stretch of the set before taking the third set 25-8, on a kill by junior Janine Ceasar (Baltimore, MD) and a block from the front row.

"Going into CIAA play next week, I think it will be very competitive, but I think this year people should pay attention to us," said junior outside hitter Elizabeth Kellum
