BOWIE, MD- Vikings Volleyball set to face Fayetteville State in ECSU's first CIAA Semifinals appearance since 2008.
 
The Vikings punched their ticket to the CIAA Championship Tournament in Wednesday night's Quarterfinal round, sweeping Winston-Salem State (25-16, 25-16, 25-19). 
 
ECSU, Claflin, Fayetteville State, and Shaw will headline Semifinal Saturday tomorrow.

The Vikings ended the regular season with a 27-5 overall record, 14-3 in the CIAA.
 
Head coach David Brooks was named the CIAA Volleyball Coach of the Year, and Jada Rouse earned CIAA Rookie of the Year, while Elizabeth Kellum, Aasia McNeil, and Mariah Griffin landed on the All-CIAA team. 
 
"I feel like we have a great shot at winning the CIAA Championship," said Aasia McNeil.
 
Brooks assumed the Volleyball head coach role in August of 2020 while the CIAA experienced a halt due to the pandemic and COVID-19. Coming from Catawba College, he has immediately turned the program around in just his first year of competition. The Vikings went from a 9-17 overall record in 2019 to having an opportunity to compete and advance to a CIAA Championship Title game on Sunday, November 21^st. 
 
"I'm very proud of the way the season has turned out," said Brooks. 
 
Throughout the season, this team has shocked the conference and become a CIAA contender. Early on in the season the team went on a 13-game winning streak, highlighted by a 3-0 CIAA Round-Up appearance at Winston-Salem State, where the Vikings defeated reigning CIAA Champions of Fayetteville State University. 
 
"We showed everybody that we are not the same team we were a couple of years ago," said Elizabeth Kellum. "We showed that with a young team, we could really do something great if we really put our minds to it." 
 
CIAA VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP COVID-19 MANDATES
In accordance with the host institution, Bowie State University, all patrons must show proof of vaccination to attend the 2021 CIAA Volleyball Championship.
