ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Vikings fall short in 73-62 loss at Claflin to end the regular season.
The Vikings drop to 4-10 in conference, 12-16 overall.
Vikings lead scorer Justin Faison (Waldorf, MD) fueled the Vikings offense with 19 points on the day, while senior forward Tyjhai Byers (Bethesda, MD) followed up with 11 points.
Senior forward Joseph Allen (Miami Gardens, FL) led the Vikings in rebounding with six boards will Faison and sophomore guard Gabe Kirkendoll (Jacksonville, NC) tallied three steals each.
The Panthers were led by Cornelius Reynolds with 12 points.
The Panthers outscored the Vikings 27-9 off of turnovers although Claflin turned the ball over just as much with 18 turnovers to ECSU's 20.
At halftime the Vikings only trailed Claflin 32-26.
The Vikings sent the Panthers to the foul line more than Shawn Walker Sr. would have liked in the second half.
Claflin shot 75 percent at the charity stripe to end the half 18-of-25 at the line, which was more free throws than the Vikings took the entire contest.
ECSU shot 41.4 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from behind the arc, and 66.7 percent at the line.
Claflin shot 57.9 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from behind the arc, and 68.8 percent at the line.

The Vikings will travel to Charlotte, NC to compete in the CIAA Basketball Tournament. The first round will Tip-Off on Tuesday, February 25. The official brackets will be released tomorrow.
