ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Vikings defeated the Blue Bears of Livingstone College 81-80 in overtime tonight.
The Vikings improve to 7-8 overall on the season, 3-3 in the CIAA.
Sophomore guard
Asia Deal (Norfolk, VA) led the Vikings with 19 points on the night. Junior forward
Tiffany McCarter(Raleigh, NC) followed up with 12 points and senior forward
Markeia Porter (Louisville, KY) added 11 points for the Vikings.
Senior forward
Devona Stell (Atlanta, GA) led the Vikings on the boards with eight rebounds.
Daisa Harris led the Blue Bears on both ends the floor totaling 28 points and seven rebounds.
ECSU shot 49.2 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from behind the arc, and 60.5 percent at the line.
Livingstone shot 36.5 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from behind the arc, and 86.4 percent at the line.
50 points tonight came from the Vikings ability to outwork the Blue Bears in the paint.
ECSU held their largest lead of the game with 5:14 remaining in the game, but the Blue Bears were not able to put the Blue Bears away in regulation.
Consecutive big trips to the line from freshman guard
Naomi Lockamy (Wake Forest, NC) kept the Vikings in the game to force the overtime.
ECSU was able to edge the Blue Bears 7-6 in overtime with a pair of big baskets from Stell to lead the charge.
The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday, January 11th in the R.L. Vaughan Center to host the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University.
