ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. -- The Elizabeth City State University softball team faced off against two Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association divisional doubleheaders this past weekend. The Vikings split the doubleheader at Virginia Union University on Saturday and swept Virginia State at home on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1 vs. Virginia Union
The Vikings jumped on Virginia Union in the third inning as
Alyssa Griffin slammed a three run shot over the left field fence.
D'Asya Wilson followed that up with a home run of her own in the fourth. The Vikings tacked on two more insurance runs in the fifth. The Panthers scored three in the sixth and seventh to push the margin to 6-3.
Game 2 vs. Virginia Union
In the second game the Vikings were undone by a great pitching effort from Union's Summer Moroch who didn't allow an ECSU hit after the third inning of play. The Vikings gave up two runs in the first, two in the fourth and one in the fifth as ECSU dropped the second contest 5-0.
Game 1 vs. Virginia State
The Trojans scored first in the third inning, plating two runs off of a two RBI double to right center field. The Vikings countered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth off of Cheyan Brasseur two RBI double and a RBI single from the bat of
Sydney Smith. Virginia State countered with two runs in the top of the sixth off of a two RBI home run. ECSUÂ came back and took the lead for good as
D'Asya Wilson singled to score
Stephanie Komives to tie the ballgame and Cheyan Brasseur finished her four RBI performance with a two RBI single to right to make the final margin 6-4.
Game 2 vs. Virginia State
Much like the first contest, the Trojans scored first by again scoring two in the third inning. Down 2-0, the Vikings erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Cheyan Brasseur plated the first two runs with a home run to center. Maya Brown garnered a bases loaded walk to score the third run.
Alyssa Griffin and
D'Asya Wilson both sent singles to the outfield to plate the final three runs of the inning. The Trojans continued to chip away the lead with two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh before the Vikings shut down the comeback attempt; taking game two by a 6-5 margin.
