HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: D'Aysa Wilson started the ECSU scoring effort off with a bunt RBI single that scored
Stephanie Komives.
Alyssa Griffin continued the effort by crossing the plate following a defensive error from Livingstone to take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first. Livingstone responded with three of their own in the top of the second off of a Le'And Glenn two RBI single to left center and a Lauryn Gray RBI double.
ECSU countered with a four run second as D'Aysa Wilson secured her second RBI on the morning following a sacrifice fly to right field. Defensive errors by Livingstone and walks from the Blue Bears pitching staff led to ECSU plating three additional runs.
Again, Livingstone countered with three runs of their own in the top of the third as Shana Morton singled to third base to score Franklin from third. ECSU committed five errors in the frame to assist the Blue Bears in scoring two additional runs.
ECSU took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth, plating five runs. The scoring started following a throwing error by the Livingstone catcher that scored Cheyan Brasseur from third. The Vikings would then plate four additional runs off of four Blue Bears walks and three Livingstone errors.
ECSU completed the scoring effort with a three run fifth as
Alyssa Griffin singled down the left field line to score two and
Stephanie Komives walked in a run from third to give the Vikings the run rule win.
Game 2: ECSU and Johnson C. Smith traded blows throughout the fifth inning as the Vikings and Golden Bulls were tied 6-6 following the fifth frame. Defense took over from that point as both ECSU and JCSU bended but did not break and give up a run over the final two innings.
With the score tied after regulation, the game went into the international tie-breaker scenario with a runner starting each half inning on second base. The Vikings and Golden Bulls both threatened with runners on third in the eighth inning but neither were able to capitalize. ECSU was held to the same fate in the top of the ninth before giving up the game winning score to the Golden Bulls off of a defensive fielding error in the bottom of the ninth.
Next up: The Vikings will finish the Round Up on Sunday by facing off against Fayetteville State at 10:00 a.m. and Claflin at 12:15 p.m.
