Softball Finishes Play in CIAA Softball Round Up

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. -- The Elizabeth City State University softball team finished play in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Softball Round Up by dropping two contests to Fayetteville State University and Claflin University on Sunday at the South Park Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Fayetteville State started the scoring effort with two runs in the top of the first as Neah Stevens scored off of a ECSU throwing error and Cheyene Ingram registered an RBI off of a single to right field. The Broncos (3-15, 3-3 CIAA) were able to register another run off of a Alex While RBI single to right field in the top of the second.

ECSU answered with an Alexis Blackwell walk that scored Stephanie Komives in the bottom of the third.

Fayetteville State scored a run in both the sixth and seventh innings as Timmya Williams grounded out to second but brought around Cheyene Ingram to score in the sixth and Madison Mendoza knocked a home run in the seventh.

The Vikings were able to register another run as Camryn West reached on a fielder's choice but brought around Shea Vaccaro to score. ECSU had the bases loaded with one out in the seventh but were not able to capitalize.

Game 2 - The last contest of the tournament for the Vikings positioned ECSU against Claflin (19-12, 8-0 CIAA) who finished the tournament undefeated. The Vikings were able to muster only one hit against the Panthers throughout the contest as Claflin scored two in the second, one in the third and seven in the fourth to register the 5-inning win.

NEXT UP

The Vikings will take some time off for spring break and will return to action against St. Augustine's University on March 27th at the South Park Athletic Complex.
