VIKINGS ROUTED BY VIRGINIA UNION IN BARCO-STEVENS HALL, 75-58

RICHMOND, Va. – Junior forward John Maynor recorded a team-high 14 points as the Elizabeth City State University basketball team dropped their Northern Division contest to Virginia Union on Wednesday evening inside Barco-Stevens Hall.

Maynor led the scoring for ECSU with 14 points, Justin Faison notched 10 and Tyjhai Byers scored 10. Byers led the effort on the boards as the junior pulled down eight rebounds on the afternoon.

Terrell Leach scored a game high 27 for the Panthers; while Demetrius Pitts knocked down 14 and Will Jenkins added 10.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half

The Vikings controlled the first three minutes of the game, taking a 7-2 lead with 17:22 before Union caught fire to get back into the contest. VUU went into the half-shooting 50 percent from the field, 50 percent from behind the arc, and 100 percent from the charity stripe; while taking a 13-point lead with .57 seconds remaining in the half.

Elizabeth City State trailed by eleven, 40-29, going into the half; while shooting 42.9 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from downtown, and 50 percent from the foul line. The score was knotted up three times, while the lead changed four times during the half. Virginia Union outscored ECSU 16-to-12 in the paint, 9-to-5 in points off turnovers, 8-to-5 in second chance points, 4-to-2 in fast break points, and 15-to-11 in bench points.

Second Half

Coming out of halftime the Vikings would trail by as much as 19 with 13:26 remaining in the contest. The Vikings were outscored 34-to-22 points in the paint, 18-to-10 points off turnovers, 14-to-9 second chance points, 8-to-4 fast break points and 28-to-27 bench points during the contest.

For the game, Elizabeth City State shot 37.5 percent from the floor, 31.8 percent from downtown, and 75 percent from the charity stripe, while Union shot 50 percent from the floor, 57.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 75 percent from the foul line.
