How It Happened

Set 1: Erskine struck first with a kill from Rebecca Massengill. The Vikings Adriana Butler (Asheboro, NC) answered back with a kill for the Vikings with assistance from Asia Jones (Rocky Mount, NC). The Flying Fleet scored three consecutive points to lead the Vikings 4-1 early. The Vikings rallied together and knotted the match at 6-6, but the Flying Fleet outscored the Vikings 19-11 to close out the set.

Set 2:  The Vikings struck first with a kill from D'kota Hinton-Louis (Las Vegas, Nevada) to start the second set. ECSU fought hard, but a 9-1 run by Erskine to end the set ailed the Vikings

Set 3: The Vikings came out blasting in the third set. Jones had a hand in every scoring play giving ECSU an early 4-0 lead over Erskine. The Vikings maintained the lead until an attack error tied the set up a 24-all. At 25-24, the Vikings trailed the Flying Feet for the first time in the set. Williams responded with a kill with assistance from Dangerfield to even out the set at 25-25. With an urgency to stay alive, the Vikings secured the set with back to back kills from Williams.

Set 4: An early 8-2 run put together by Erskine set the Vikings back to start the set. The Vikings remained poised, but their efforts were not enough to halt the Flying Fleet.
