Naterria Luster recorded her seventh double-double on the season (17 points/10 rebounds), as the Elizabeth City State University women's basketball team dropped the 60-57 nail-bitter in Manuel Rivero Hall Wednesday evening. Â
With the loss, the Vikings fall to 12-8 overall and 4-5 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association; while the Lions improve to 11-9; 5-4 in conference action.
Elizabeth City State closed out the first half shooting 27.5 percent from the field, 25.5 percent from behind the arch, and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe; while Lincoln shot 33.3 percent from the floor, 16.7 percent from downtown, and 33.3 percent from the foul line.
ECSU outscored LU 14-to-12 in the paint, 8-to-4 in second chance points, and 9-to-8 in bench points; while the Lions led points off turnovers 5-to-3 and fast break points 2-to-0. During the first half, spectators saw the game tied three times and the lead change twice. The Vikings led by as much as 10 points with 2:48 remaining in the first quarter. Â
Elizabeth City State led by as much as 15 points with 5:28 remaining in the third quarter, before Lincoln ignited a 31-to- 13 run. The Vikings finished the game shooting 30.9 percent from the floor, 26.1 percent from behind the arch, 69.2 percent from the charity stripe; while the Lions shot 36.9 percent from the field, 24 percent from downtown, and 75 percent from the foul line.
For the game, the Vikings were outscored 28-to-24 in the paint, 17-to-4 points off turnover, 4-to-0 fast break points, and 19-to-13 in bench points.
Elizabeth City State returns home Saturday, Jan. 26 for Sager Strong/Coaches versus Cancer Night to host Virginia State University at 2 p.m. in the R. L. Vaughan Center.
