VIKINGS ROUT LADY BEARS IN NEW TRENT GYM BEHIND LUSTER’S 21 POINT EFFORT

SALISBURY, N.C.  – Junior Naterria Luster recorded her seventh double double on the season, to spearhead the Vikings to an 87-63 victory over Livingstone College in New Trent Gymnasium Thursday evening. Luster scored 21 points and hauled in 13 boards.

With the victory, ECSU improves to 11-5 on the season and 4-2 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association; while LC falls to 3-11 overall and 0-4 in conference action.

The Vikings came out of the half in the third quarter, shooting 57.9 percent from the field, 40 percent from behind the arch, and 66.7 percent from the free throw line; while holding the Lady Bears to only 16.7 percent shooting from the floor and 50 percent from the charity stripe.

For the game, Elizabeth City State shot 43.6 percent from the field, 25 percent from behind the arch, and 82.4 percent from the line; while LC shot 33.8 percent from the floor, 24 percent from downtown, and 50 percent from the free throw line. ECSU led the Lady Bears in points in the paint 42-to-24 and points off turnovers 20-to-12.

The Vikings closed out the first half with a 12-point lead while shooting 42.9 percent from the field (18-of-42), 23.1 percent from behind the arch (3-of-13), and 80 percent from the charity stripe (8-of-10). The Lady Bears were held to 35.7percent shooting from the floor (15-of-42), 20 percent from downtown (3-of-15), and 50 percent from the foul line (2-of-4).
  
Luster led ECSU at the half with 14 points and eight boards; while LC's Harris led all scorers with 15 points. Elizabeth City State outscored Livingstone 20-to-12 points in the paint and 8-to-6 points off turnovers. The Lady Bears led the Vikings in second chance points 14-to-12 and bench points 8-to-4 during the half.  

Freshman Asia Deal recorded 20 points; while senior Jalyn Brown recorded 16 points in the victory. Junior Devona Stell collected a double double scoring 19 points and adding 13 rebounds for the Vikings. ECSU is set to face Johnson C. Smith Saturday in Charlotte at 2 p.m. in Brayboy Gym.
