ECSU FALLS TO LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE IN NEW TRENT GYM, 74-69

SALISBURY, N.C.  – Elizabeth City State University fell to Livingstone College, 74-69 in New Trent Gym during a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association cross-divisional matchup Thursday evening.

Elizabeth City State was on fire in the first half. The Vikings shot 58.1 percent from the floor (18-of-31), 18.2 percent from behind the arc (2-of-11), and 100 percent from the foul line (4-of-4); while holding the Blue Bears to 46.7 percent from the field (14-of-30), 33.3 percent from downtown (3-of-9), 85.7 percent from the charity stripe (6-of-7).   

ECSU led LC in points in the paint (26-to-22), in fast break points (6-to-4), and in bench points (15-to-5) while outscoring the Vikings 13-to-11 in points off turnovers and in second chance points 7-to-5 in the first half. ECSU led by as much as 8 points in the half with junior Joseph Allen 10 points leading the way.

Elizabeth City State came out flat in the second half, shooting just 29.6 percent from the field, 30 percent from behind the arch, and 61.5 percent from the foul line. For the game, the Vikings shot 44.8 percent from the floor, 23.8 percent from downtown, and 70.6 percent from the charity stripe while Livingstone shot 42.6 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from deep, and 84 percent from the free throw.

ECSU outscored the Blue Bears in points in the paint 32-to-28, second chance points 10-to-7, fast break points 6-to-4, and bench points 29-to-10 while being led in points off turnovers 22-to-14. Livingstone led by as much as 10 with 1:12 remaining in the contest.

Allen led the way for Elizabeth City State with 13 points and eight rebounds; while sophomore Justin Faison added 12 in the effort. LC's Roger Ray led all scorers with 30 points, while Lydell Elmore recorded 12 points and Cameryn Carpenter added 10 to round out all the double-digit scorers.

The Vikings are set to face Johnson C. Smith Saturday in Charlotte at 4 p.m. in Brayboy Gym.
