Last season, the Vikings had a tough time moving the ball in a lump-sided 66-14 loss to the Braves in Roebuck Stadium for Military Appreciation game day. This season, ECSU is seeking a different outcome after revamping its offense and bringing a more balanced game to the mix.
Elizabeth City State boasted over 160 yards rushing on 25 attempts and 168 passing yards in the season's home opener last week; while defensively holding the Marauders to only 189 total yards. The Vikings averaged 12.9 yards per catch, 6.6 yards per rush, and 6.4 yards per play; while converting on 67% of their third down conversions.
UNC-Pembroke on the other hand did not fare so well during its outing in Bowman Gray Stadium against Winston-Salem State University. The Braves were able to collect over 300 total yards of offense (256 passing/47 rushing), but received eight penalties for 68 yards and had trouble stopping the run. The Rams rushed for over 100 yards on 38 attempts to claim a 23-20 victory over the Braves.
- ECSU's sophomore defensive back Taeyonn Reynolds was named Special Teams Player of the Week for tallying five total tackles, including two tackles for a loss for 10 yards, a forced fumble that was returned 35 yards for a touchdown, and a pass break-up during week one.
- Gregory Bryan got his senior season campaign off to a good start. Boasting over 100 yards on nine carries in the win over CSU.
- Freshman quarterback Kedrick Patterson went 13-for-27 with 168 total yards passing, including a touchdown in his college debut.
- Senior wide-out Deon Yarborough recorded 82 total yards on five receptions; while averaging 16.4 per reception.
- Defensively, senior co-captain Miacah Cooper paced the Vikings with nine total tackles (6 solo/3 assists), three tackles for a loss, and a sack.
