ECSU Volleyball Topples Bowie State In Four Sets

BOWIE, Md.  – Four hours after capturing its first victory on the season over the Lincoln University (PA) Lady Lions, 3-0, the Elizabeth City State University volleyball team toppled the Bowie State University Bulldogs, 3-1, (17-25; 25-23; 10-25; 18-25) Sunday evening in A.C. Jordan Arena.   

With the victory, ECSU improve to 2-14 on the season and 2-8 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association; while the Bulldogs fall to 1-9 overall and 0-7 in conference action.   
As a team, Elizabeth City State held a .129 hitting percentage; while holding Bowie State to a -.028 hitting percentage. ECSU tallied eight kills in the first set, six kills in the second, ten kills in the third, and 10 in the fourth with 101 total attacks.

The Lady Vikings controlled the game in point differential (47.0 to 35.0), kills (34 to 26), aces (12 to 7), assists (28 to 19), and digs (44 to 39). Freshman Kaylee Williams led the game in kills with (9) and a career/game-high four serve aces; while freshman Asia Jones tallied 13 assists. 

Sophomore Jahera Dangerfield led the game defensively with 12 digs. During the first set, Elizabeth City State ran away from the Bulldogs, before running into a few mishaps in the second set. The Lady Vikings jumped out in front by two (10-8) during the third set and never looked back. Elizabeth City State closed out the fourth set, 18-25, to capture its second win on the season.

The Lady Vikings will host CIAA rival Chowan University at home Thursday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. in the R. L. Vaughan Center, before welcoming Lincoln University (PA), Sunday Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.
