Volleyball Challenges Chowan, Virginia State and Felician in Weekend Action

Drops three matches in weekend play

| Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. -- The Viking Volleyball team challenged CIAA North Division rivals Chowan and Virginia State as well as stepped out of conference play to face off against Felician University this weekend in Murfreesboro and Petersburg. ECSU showed fight in all three but dropped matches to Chowan (3-1), Virginia State (3-1) and Felician (3-0).

The Vikings started the weekend trek by facing off against Chowan inside of the Helms Center on Friday night. ECSU started off the match by dropping the first set to the hosts 25-13 but rebounded in the second set to pace Chowan 25-18. The Vikings would then drop sets three and four by scores of 25-11 and 25-10. The Vikings were paced by Kaylee Williams with five kills, Jahera Dangerfield led the Vikings in aces and assists and D'Kota Hinton-Louis led the Viking effort with three blocks.

Less than 48 hours later ECSU faced off against Virginia State and Felician College on Sunday. Starting with an 11:00 a.m. match, the Vikings faced off against CIAA rival Virginia State for their first matchup of the season. ECSU fell behind early in the first set and dropped the first set by a 25-5 score but showed considerable fight by winning the second set by a 25-20 margin. The Trojans would best the Vikings in sets three and four by scores of 25-14 and 25-15 to win the match. For the Vikings, they were led by Matewah Tamba with two kills and Asia Jones who led ECSU in aces, blocks and assists.

In match number two of the afternoon, the Vikings faced off against Felician and fell to the Golden Falcons in straight sets (25-10, 25-9, 25-19). Kaylee Williams, Matewah Tamba and Asia Jones led the way offensively for ECSU in the contest.

After seven matches in seven days, the Vikings will have the opportunity for a much deserved rest and will be back in action at Virginia Union on October 29th. ECSU will look to finish the home slate strong on Senior Night on November 2nd as they will play host to the Trojans of Virginia State inside of the R.L. Vaughan Center.
