Volleyball Travels to Chowan and Virginia State for Weekend Tilts

Will also face Felician College while at Virginia State

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Viking Volleyball team will start a four game road trip with three matches in two different locations this weekend as ECSU will take on CIAA rival Chowan in Murfreesboro at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening; and then continue north to face Virginia Union and Felician College on Sunday afternoon.

The match versus Chowan marks the second time in eight days that the Vikings have faced off against the Hawks. ECSU dropped the first match in straight sets, 21-25, 15-25 and 23-25. ECSU bested Chowan in errors committed in the contest but lost the hitting percentage battle, which doomed the Vikings effort. Since that contest the improvement for ECSU has been noticable as the Vikings have played four contests and posted a 2-2 record. To date, Chowan has posted a 7-11 record overall, a 7-4 record in conference play and a perfect 4-0 record in divisional play.

After playing in the Helms Center on Chowan's campus on Friday night, the Vikings will take the short 75-mile trip north to face off against CIAA North Division opponent Virginia State and Felician College out of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. It will mark the first time that ECSU has faced off against either of those opponents this season.

Virginia State comes into the weekend off of a straight set defeat of UVA-Wise and having posted a 16-7 record overall, a 9-4 record in the CIAA and a 4-2 record in the North Division. Felician comes into the contest with a 5-14 record and a 4-8 record in the CACC. This will mark the second contest that Felician has played against CIAA competition during the 2018 campaign, after playing Lincoln the night before. The past two weeks have been rough for the Golden Falcons as they have dropped seven straight matches.

After the trip to Petersburg, the Vikings will trek back north to face off against Virginia Union on October 16th before finishing the season with Senior Night inside of the R.L. Vaughan Center against Virginia State on November 2nd and the CIAA Championships in Salem, Virginia the week of November 10th.
