Sept. 6, 2014 Final Stats
WINSTON-SALEM, NC- The Elizabeth City State University volleyball team opened the season with two tough losses at day one of the Al Roseboro Volleyball Invitational hosted by Winston-Salem State University.
The Lady Vikings suffered two three set sweeps to Tuskegee University (25-19, 25-23,25-15) and Emmanuel College (25-17, 25-12, 25-13).
In the season opener against Tuskegee, ECSU played the Golden Tigers close but their attack game proved to be a setback. The Lady Vikings had more errors (26) than kills (23) for a negative match hitting percentage (-.037) and struggled a bit in the return game, surrendering nine service aces to Tuskegee. TU (2-0) used a balanced attack and was paced by Kristal Woodard with 8 kills and a game high 4 service aces.
Kelsey Smith led the way with a match high 9 kills for the Lady Vikings.
Against Emmanuel Rosetta Becerra topped all performers with a match high 10 kills. However like their first match, ECSU's attack accuracy was their Achilles heel as they had more errors (19) than kills (17). Emmanuel also kept the Lady Vikings at bay with their service game racking up 10 aces in the match.
ECSU will wrap up their play at the two day invitational on Saturday against Paine College at 9am and Kutztown University at 1:30pm. Follow in Twitter @ECSUVikings and log onto www.ecsuvikings.com for more information on ECSU Athletics.
