SMITH LEADS ECSU IN FIVE SET RALLY OVER BOWIE STATE

BOWIE, MD- Kelsey Smith tallied a career high 24 kills to lead Elizabeth City State University over Bowie State University in a five set thriller Monday night at AC Jordan Arena.

The Lady Bulldogs dominated the first set 25-17 and squeezed out a 25-22 win in the second to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Lady Vikings controlled the third set, with Kelsey Smith doing most of the damage. Smith was responsible for five the teams' 10 third set kills on six attacks.

With Elizabeth City State holding a 13-8 lead, the Lady Vikings went on an 11-0 run before a Yaje Ngundam kill stopped the run at 24-9. From that point, Smith drilled a kill into the A.C Jordan Arena court to close out set three.

In set four, BSU to a 7-3 only to see Smith and the Lady Vikes battle back to tie the set at 9-9. There would be two more ties before ECSU gained the lead for the first time since the first point of set four.

Smith helped ECSU completed the come from behind effort with five kills in the final set. Rosetta Becerra was also error free in the close out set, smashing four of her 17 match kills. The Lady Vikings took the fifth and final set 15-7.

Kelsey Smith finished her career night with 11 digs, as one five Lady Vikings that tallied double digits in digs.

ECSU will return to action this weekend in the second CIAA roundup against Johnson C. Smith, Winston-Salem State and Livingstone College in Charlotte, NC.
