ECSU CLOSES OUT WEEKEND WITH RALLY WIN OVER LADY FALCONS

MURFREESBORO, NC- In the final match of an action packed volleyball weekend Elizabeth City State University held on to edge Saint Augustine's 3-2 in a five-set thriller.

ECSU grabbed the first two sets 25-22 and 26-24. The Lady Falcons responded with 27-25 and 25-21 wins in sets three and four respectively before falling to the Lady Vikings 16-14.

Rosetta Becerra notched a match-high 19 kills in the win while Emmesha White and Kelsey Smith tallied 13 kills apiece. Tracie Twine had 26 digs in the victory with Krystal Sawyer and Becerra hauling in 20 digs of their own.

The Lady Falcons were led by Olivia Porter with 16 kills and 17 digs while Marley Parker collected 19 digs.

After two early set victories, the Lady Vikings fought to overcome 34 team errors to edge Saint Augustine's in the match. In the third set, with the Lady Vikings leading 19-18, an ECSU error sparked a 4-0 run for Saint Augustine's resulting in a 22-19 lead for the Lady Falcons. With the scored knotted 25-25, a service error and kill by Mikayla Pettyjohn secured the third set victory for Saint Augustine's.

With the match tied 2-2, the Lady Vikings started out the fifth set with a 3-0 run. They held on to the advantage for the entire set until a kill by Julieesa Thomas iced the contest 22-22. Back-to-back attack errors by the Lady Falcons resulted in the 16-14 win for ECSU.

The Lady Vikings (2-5, CIAA 2-1) will host their first home game of the season on Tuesday, September 16 against UNC-Pembroke.
