Charlotte, NC- The Elizabeth City State University volleyball team posted a 2-1 record this past weekend at the CIAA North-South Roundup hosted by Johnson C. Smith University.
The Lady Vikings improve to 5-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
On day one ECSU split their first two matches, defeating Johnson C. Smith in four sets before falling in straight sets to Winston-Salem State University. The Lady Vikings then wrapped up the weekend with a three set sweep of Livingstone College.
In their first match, the Lady Vikings topped Johnson C. Smith (25-21, 25-16,23-25,25-17). Rosetta Becerra led the way with career highs in both kills (28) and digs (19), while Kelsey Smith added 15 kills and 3 solo blocks. The Lady Golden Bulls team kill total of 28 was just three less than that of Becerra's output for the match. Imeshia Jones paced JCSU with a team high 9 kills.
Winston-Salam State University handed ECSU their only loss of the weekend in straight sets 25-9, 25-18, and 25-16.
The Lady Rams turned up their defensive efforts to take the win as the team allowed just 17 kills to the Lady Vikings and recorded 10 total blocks in the match. Outside hitter Avoni Seymour led the way for the Lady Rams with eight kills while Olivia Owens added eight kills as well. Rosetta Becerra led the Lady Vikings with 7 kills.
In their final match of the weekend, the Lady Vikings bounced back, toppling Livingstone College in three sets, (25-17,25-18,25-17).
