Sept. 17, 2013

Final Stats

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Mount Olive College defeated Elizabeth City State University in straight sets (25-16, 25-23, 25-23) Tuesday night at the RL Vaughan Center.

To earn their first win of the season, the Trojans (1-7) had to rally from behind in each set for the sweep of ECSU. After dropping the first two games, the Lady Vikings seemed primed to take the third set after a side out and 5 straight service points by Emmesha White gave them a 19-13 lead.

Mount Olive charged back with six straight points, including 3 aces by Nicole Karas to claim a 20-19 advantage over ECSU. The Lady Vikings then reclaimed the lead on a side out kill by Kelsey Smith followed by Rosetta Becerra's 10th kill of the night.

Sarah Robinson then served three points to give her team set (match) point (24-21) before a service error gave the ball back to the Lady Vikings. ECSU gained one more point on an attack error by Carly White however she would redeem herself on the next possession with a solo block to seal the match for the Trojans.

The Lady Vikings struggled with Mount Olive's service game, as the Trojans racked up 13 service aces on the evening. Becerra led the ECSU charge with a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs.
