LADY VIKINGS DEFEAT VIRGINIA UNION IN STRAIGHT SETS

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- In their first home game of the season, the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings swept Virginia Union University (25-22, 25-15, 25-11) Monday night at the RL Vaughan Center.

With the win ECSU moves to 3-1 in the CIAA Northern Division while Virginia Union University falls to 1-13 overall and 1-2 in division play.

In the first set the Lady Panthers and Lady Vikings played to a near even tilt, totaling 12 team kills apiece. The Lady Panthers committed five more errors than ECSU and the Lady Vikings escaped the opening set 25-22.

Virginia Union's attack woes would continue throughout the match. In the final two sets the Lady Panthers had 11 kills versus 21 hitting errors. ECSU also stiffened their defense at the net with a total of six team blocks. Tori Lamont led all defenders with 3 solo stops as the Lady Vikings breezed through sets two and three 25-15 and 25-11.

Whitney Green and Morghan Stallings both finished with 7 kills apiece to lead the Lady Vikings.

ECSU (7-5, CIAA 6-1) will return to action this weekend at the CIAA Volleyball Roundup hosted by Fayetteville State University. They will take on Fayetteville State and Shaw University on Saturday, September 29th at 1pm and 3pm, respectively and will finish the weekend against Saint Augustine's University on Sunday at 11:00am.
