CHOWAN TOPPLES ECSU VOLLEYBALL IN FOUR SETS

MURFREESBORO, NC- Whitney Green finished with a match high 17 kills but it was not enough as the Chowan University Hawks topped the Lady Vikings in four sets (25-20, 25-12, 22-25, 25-17) Thursday night at the Helms Center.

The two teams entered the match with unblemished CIAA records. Now with Thursday's win, the Hawks take hold of first place in the CIAA Northern Division.

Chowan improves to 8-3 (CIAA 6-0) while ECSU slips to 6-5, 5-1 in the conference. The first two sets were tightly contested with the Hawks prevailing 25-20 and 25-12. In the third set, the Lady Vikings fought back with their best attack effort of the evening. As a team ECSU collected 14 kills versus only 4 hitting errors.

Defensively they also held Chowan at bay by collecting their only blocks of the match; a solo one each by Kelsey Smith and Tori Lamont. Green was also flawless in the third, with 5 kills versus zero hitting errors.

In the fourth and deciding set the Hawks regrouped with their best team effort of the night, mirroring ECSU set three out-put with 14 kills. Karina Monroe finished with a team high 15 kills to lead the Hawks.

ECSU will return to action when they host their first home game of the season when they host divisional foe Virginia Union University on Monday, September 24th.
