Final Stats

SALISBURY, NC- The Elizabeth City State Lady Viking volleyball team opened the 2010 season with a three set sweep of Pfeiffer University (25-20, 25-22, 25-20) Friday afternoon at Goodwin Gymnasium on the campus of Catawba College.

Defense led the way in the victory as the Lady Vikings net play shut down Pfeiffer's attack with a total of 11 team blocks. Samarri Griffin anchored the defense with 2 solo and 7 assisted blocks limiting the opponent to a negative team attack percentage -.036 (26 kills vs. 30 hitting errors).

The Lady Vikings were +7 in digs, 44-37 with Cassie Noe topping ECSU with a team high of 10. Lia Scott and Xie'Ara Maybank-Smallings led ECSU offensively with 8 kills apiece.

ECSU will wrap up their weekend action on Saturday with two matches, facing Shippensburg at 11:30am followed by Lenoir-Rhyne at 3:30pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
