MURFREESBORO, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings inched one step closer to clinching their fourth consecutive division title with a 3-1 (25-20, 12-25, 25-17, 25-21) road win over Chowan University Tuesday night at the Helms Center.
The Lady Vikings remain undefeated against CIAA opponents at 14-0 with three matches remaining in the season against Virginia Union, Saint Paul's College and Lincoln (Pa.) University.
The Hawks fall to 14-11 overall and 12-2 in the CIAA; their two conference losses came at the hands of the Lady Vikings.
From the overall team standpoint the Hawks bested ECSU in kills 45-31 led by Karina Monroe's match high 18 kills. However Chowan's miscues proved to be their undoing with 27 hitting errors while giving up 13 points off serving errors. The Lady Vikings held the service edge in Tuesday's match with 10 aces and a total of 7 team blocks (10 assisted) to a total of 5.0 for the Hawks.
Whitney Green and Lia Scott paced ECSU with 9 and 8 kills respectively.
