ECSU DEFEATS BOWIE STATE VOLLEYBALL 3-0

BOWIE, MD- The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings won their second division match of 2009 with a three-game sweep of Bowie State University (25-13, 25-15, 25-10) Wednesday night at A.C. Jordan Arena.

Xie'Ara Maybank-Smallings led ECSU with a game high 9 kills and along with 2 solo blocks and 4 assisted blocks in the win. Lia Scott contributed an 8 kill effort as the Lady Vikings rang up a total of 34 kills, more than doubling the output of the Lady Bulldogs (15). The match represented the Lady Vikings' quickest win of the 2009 season as they downed BSU in 56 minutes.

The Lady Bulldogs slip to 1-14 overall while ECSU improves to 2-0 in the CIAA East.

The Lady Vikings (10-7, CIAA 7-1) will return to action on Monday, September 21st when they travel to division rival Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA. Game time is scheduled for 6:00pm at Daniel Gymnasium. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.escuvikings.com.
