BOWIE, MD- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Viking volleyball team won their conference opener over Bowie State University in a three game sweep (30-19, 30-26, 30-12) Thursday night at AC Jordan Arena.
With the win ECSU kept the Lady Bulldogs winless on the young season (0-3, CIAA 0-1) while the Lady Vikings improve to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Freshman middle hitter Xie'Ara Maybank-Smallings had her best outing of the season with 14 kills versus only one hitting error and a solo block. Pre-season All-CIAA selection Eva Johnson also contributed 14 kills along with 4 service aces and 11 digs. TreCola Leary smashed a career best 6 service aces and Christina Hager chipped in with 10 kills.
Three of ECSU's four wins this season have come via a three-game sweep.
