HAMPTON, VA- Two members of the Elizabeth City State University volleyball team have received weekly honors as released by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Eva Johnson and teammate Xie'Ara Maybank-Smallings have been named CIAA Player and Rookie of the Week. Eva Johnson, a 2007 Pre-Season All-CIAA selection receives the first Player of the Week honor of her career after helping the Lady Vikings post a 2-1 record last week. Her best overall performance came in the Lady Vikings' sweep of Virginia State University where she totaled 9 kills, 6 service aces and 12 digs. The Havelock, NC native is 3rd in the CIAA in digs (3.69 per game) and ranks 4th overall in kills at 3.33 per game.
Freshman middle hitter Xie'Ara Maybank-Smallings garners her second consecutive Rookie of the Week honor. The New Castle, DE native ranks 2nd in the league in hitting percentage and is 5th overall in blocks. The Lady Vikings are in first place in the CIAA Eastern Division (3-0) are 10-5 overall and 7-1 in the CIAA. They have won 7 of their last 8 matches and will play host to Barton College tomorrow at the RL Vaughan Center at 6:00pm. Admission is free.
