HAMPTON, VA- Six members of the Elizabeth City State University Lady Viking volleyball team have been named to the 2007 All-CIAA Volleyball team as released by the conference office Friday afternoon.
The team is voted on annually by the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association. Christina Hager and Eva Johnson headline the All-CIAA First Team selections for ECSU. Hager a senior middle blocker who hails from Angier, NC receives her second career All-CIAA First team honor. This season Hager led the CIAA in blocks and ranked 3rd in the CIAA in hitting percentage. After making her mark during her rookie campaign, Havelock, NC native Eva Johnson followed that up with a successful sophomore season, garnering her first All-CIAA selection as an outside hitter. Like Hager, she was named CIAA Player of the Week once during 2007 and Johnson ranks 3rd in the league in both kills and digs.
Rounding out the Lady Viking accolades as All-CIAA second team members are sophomore setter Ashley Tarasoff along with freshmen Xie'Ara Maybank-Smallings, Stacie West and Cassie Noe. The Lady Vikings (19-9, CIAA 12-1) will enter next week's CIAA Volleyball Championship as the #1 seed in the CIAA Eastern Division. Pool play is slated to begin at 9:00am Thursday in Charlotte, NC.
