Final Stats
ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings won their fourth straight match with a three-game sweep (30-24, 30-25, 30-27) of Peace College Tuesday evening at the RL Vaughan Center in non-conference volleyball action.
With the win the Lady Vikings improve to 13-5 overall and remain undefeated on their home court this season. They also complete the series sweep of Peace College as they defeated the Lady Pacers in five games back on September 1st in Raleigh, NC.
The Lady Vikings controlled most of the tempo in the match's first two games. Then the tables turned as the Lady Pacers (6-13) rallied to take a 26-21 lead and ECSU found itself trailing for the first time all evening. Though Peace may have had visions of a game 4 in mind the Lady Vikings, behind the serve of freshman libero Cassie Noe and the outside attack of Eva Johnson, mustered a rally of their own scoring six straight points to take a 28-26 lead before a side out gave the ball back to the visitors. ECSU then forced its own side out and Christina Hager finished the match with her game high 12th kill of the evening to lift the Lady Vikings to victory.
Shamica Phillips led the way for Peace College with 9 kills.
Freshman middle hitter Xie'Ara Maybank-Smallings was flawless on the night with 11 kills versus no hitting errors, 2 solo blocks and 2 assisted blocks.
The Lady Vikings will attempt to stay atop and undefeated in the CIAA Eastern Division when they travel to Lawrenceville, VA to take on Saint Paul's College. Game time is scheduled for 3:00pm at Taylor-Whitehead Gymnasium. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
