ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings came from behind to defeat the University of the District of Columbia 3 games to 2 in volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the RL Vaughan Center.

After taking game one 30-20, the Lady Vikings dropped games two and three, 30-22 and 30-18. In game four ECSU went on the attack led by junior Tara Blakeney and freshman Tanika Hudgins, collecting 11 kills as the Lady Firebirds faltered with 5 kills against 10 errors. In the fifth and deciding game, ECSU cruised out to what appeared to be a commanding 8-0 lead before the feisty Lady Firebirds mustered one final rally. In the end, ECSU would prevail edging UDC 15-11 complete the come from behind win and take the match.

Freshman Tanika Hudgins led the Lady Vikings with 12 kills while Tara Blakeney finished with 11. For UDC April Shepherd finished with a game high 20 kills.

The Lady Vikings (1-0) will be at home this coming Tuesday, August 30, 2005 as they open up conference play versus Shaw University. Game time is scheduled for 6:00pm in the RL Vaughan Center. For more information on ECSU athletics, log onto www.ecsuvikings.com.
