ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Viking volleyball team will open up the 2005-2006 athletic season on Saturday August 27th at 2:00pm in the RL Vaughan Center.

The Lady Vikings will take on the University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds in the first to open up their 2005 schedule. UDC will be looking to avenge two losses suffered at the hands of ECSU last season. In their season opener, the Lady Viking swept the Lady Firebirds 3-0 on September 4, 2004. The rematch in Washington, DC yielded the same result with ECSU prevailing 3-1. Experience will be on the side of ECSU as they lost only one from last season's squad. Returning will be Kesha Neal (Senior, Chesapeake, VA), Tara Blakeney (Junior, Monroe, NC), Marquita Perkins (Junior, Bethel, NC) and Shameka Leach (Junior, High Point, NC). The 2005 season will also boast the first recruiting class of second year head coach Linda Bell.

The match is slated to begin a 2:00pm in the RL Vaughan Center. Admission is free.
