ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings dropped their conference opener to division rival Shaw University 30-25, 30-25, 23-30, and 30-25.

After losing the first two games, the Lady Vikings rebounded to take game three 30-23. However the Lady Bears regrouped to take the final game and the match to improve to 1-1 (CIAA 1-0), The Lady Vikings slip to 1-1 as well (CIAA 0-1).

In her CIAA debut, freshman Yuriante' Pendleton led the field with a game high 20 kills along with 6 digs and 2 solo blocks. ECSU will return to action September 17-19 as they travel to Fayetteville, NC to for the 2004 Volleyball Round-Up, where they will face teams for the CIAA Western Division over the three-day event.
