ECSU DROPS CRUCIAL MATCH TO BOWIE STATE

October 23, 2004

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Bowie State University took a crucial match from Elizabeth City State Saturday afternoon, winning 3-1, 30-32, 30-16, 30-26, 30-23. The two teams have now split the season series.

As a team, BSU amassed 58 kills to 26 for ECSU. Whitney Chatman paced the Lady Bulldogs with 22 kills followed by Jerrie Hicks with 13 kills. Shameka Leach led ECSU with 7 kills while Leslie Kennedy added a game high 13 digs.

Had ECSU swept BSU, they would have solidified 4th place in the Eastern Division. By virtue of the Lady Viking loss, BSU and ECSU each have three division wins and in case of a tie at the end of the regular season, the decision will rely on the conference record. At the 2004 Round Up, the Lady Bulldogs faired a game better than ECSU, so they will advance to championship play if a tie occurs.

The Lady Vikings will travel to Richmond, VA October 26th to face the division leading Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University. Game time is slated for 6:00pm.
