
Ramona Staton-Dash enters her second year as the Director of Student-Athlete Success and Wellness at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) for the 2024-2025 academic year. In this role, she assists and strengthens the student-athlete experience as it relates to Life in the Balance. Ramona is responsible for facilitating and implementing success strategies to enhance academic performance and retention among student-athletes and manages study hall participation. Notably, in her first year, she achieved a 43% increase in student-athlete GPAs from the Fall 2023 to Spring 2024 terms, as well as improvements in cumulative marks.
Ramona collaborates closely with campus departments and serves on the university's C.A.R.E. team committee and JED Campus Task Force to provide holistic support for student wellness.
In addition to her academic leadership, Ramona collaborates with the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance on team certification and roster management. She has served on national committees, including the ITA Nominating Committee for the 2021-2023 Board of Directors and the USTA Tennis Industry United Young Coaches Cohort Program in 2021. Ramona also served as a member to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Ranking Tennis Committee and CIAA Tennis Vice President from 2018-2020.
Before joining ECSU, Ramona had a successful career as a Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach and Tennis Professional at Chowan University, Johnson C. Smith University, Cobblestone Park Golf Club, Windermere Racquet Club, and Queens University of Charlotte. Her most notable accomplishment includes leading her team to a #9 regional ranking in the Atlantic Region in the 2018 spring season. Ramona has produced ten ITA all-academic tennis teams and 26 ITA scholar-athletes.
Ramona holds a master’s degree in sports management from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree in recreation and leisure services from Benedict College. She is an active member of National Athletics College Directors Association (NACDA), Women’s Leaders in Sports, and WeCOACH.
A native of Marshville, N.C., Ramona is a proud wife to Cyril Dash and mother to Naomi.
