Vikings Conclude Their Season in CIAA Quarterfinals

Winston-Salem, N.C. - A bittersweet day for the Vikings of Elizabeth City state, as they would face off with the Rams of Winston-Salem State University, splitting the day and ultimately concluding their season, on a breezy Tuesday afternoon at the Twin City Ball fields.

Game 1- The Vikings would come out swinging on their first at-bat they would get a hit from freshman Sikia Kornegay who would triple to left field. Kornegay was also named to the All-CIAA Softball team earlier in the day. A strong defensive performance from both programs would cause a stagnant fight throughout the day until the fourth inning when the Rams would find life with a home run. The Vikings would respond in the seventh inning, with two RBIs off an error from WSSU. This would allow the Vikings to secure a win with a score of 4-3 and most importantly keep their season alive.

Game 2- The Vikings would need a victory to advance to the CIAA Semifinals. There would be a change in the circle allowing an opportunity for Senior Alexis Monroe. The Rams would homer to left field and go into the second inning with a score of 1-0. Karma Fields would score a home run in the top of the second inning, Fields would also be named earlier in the day to the 2023 All-CIAA Softball team. The score at the Twin City ball field complex would be all knotted at 1-1. Senior, Stephanie Komives would also record a base hit allowing a RBI and push the score 2-1. The Rams would score multiple ways on several wild pitches and would not look back from that moment." Our first game we came out with more grit. Had the attitude of I think we really gotta do this, and once we won we got complacent and you could feel the energy shift." Coach Forbes said following the second game less.

The Vikings would conclude their season with a (12-16) overall record and (10-6) in CIAA play.
