Softball goes 3-1 over final two days of CIAA Round-Up

RALEIGH, N.C. – After splitting the first day at the CIAA Round-Up, the Lady Vikings finished the weekend 3-1 by outscoring their opponents 41-14.
 
On Saturday, ECSU was trailing Johnson C. Smith 4-8 before mounting their comeback in the bottom half of the seventh. Sophomore Zeta Brown got the inning started with single before getting to second base on a passed ball. Following a walk by junior Isabel Muggass and a single by senior Cheyan Brasseur, junior Alexis Monroe plated Brown with a single.
 
With the bases loaded, junior Kennedi Williams belted a triple scoring Monroe, sophomore Joanna Duhudaway, who was pitch-running for Brasseur, and Mugaas to earn the 9-8 walk-off victory.
 
Senior Casie Wright earned the win in the circle for ECSU, her third of the season.
 
In the second game on Saturday, the Lady Vikings fell to Fayetteville State 4-2. Leading the way for ECSU was freshman Karrigan Belangia and Mugass with three hits apiece while Monroe and junior Claire Kellum added one each. Brasseur earned a pair of RBI's in the fifth when she reach based on an error scoring Mugaas and Belangia.
 
On Sunday, the ECSU offense exploded for 30 runs over two games while earning victories against Livingstone and Saint Augustine's.
 
On the day's first game, the Lady Vikings tallied 18 hits while every player recorded hits. They were led by Mugaas and Duhudaway with three each. Mugaas knocked in seven RBI's while Brown, Monroe and Duhudaway added three each.
 
In the final game of the weekend, ECSU crossed home ten-times on thirteen hits sparked by a two four-run innings – the third and fifth – to pick-up the 10-2 victory of SAU.
 
Six Lady Vikings posted two hits while Williams led the way with two RBI's.
 
In the circle, Belangia earned a pair wins Sunday by tossing four innings and striking out four against Livingstone before getting a pair of Falcons to fan in the second game.
 
The Lady Vikings are back in action when they play host to Virginia State University on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 1 and 3 sat South Park Sports Complex in Elizabeth City.
