HERTFORD, N.C. – The Elizabeth City State University softball team dropped a 9-0 decision to Brevard College at Perquimans County High School on Tuesday afternoon.
The contest, which had to be moved to Perquimans County High School due to poor field conditions throughout the Elizabeth City area, was the first home date of the 2019 schedule for the Vikings. With the win, Brevard improved to 1-0 on the season. With the loss the Vikings dropped to 0-3 on the 2019 campaign.
Brevard started the game with two runs in the top half of the first inning off of a Marissa Henson double to right field. The Tornadoes added four more runs in the top of the second with an Emily White double to right field that scored two and a Marissa Cook two RBI single to right field.
The Vikings held Brevard scoreless in both the third and fourth innings before giving up three runs off of a two RBI triple by Olivia Pauldin and a Breanna Allen sacrifice fly to center field.
For the Vikings they were led by
Alexis Blackwell who went 1-for-2 on the afternoon and
Kali Flanagan who finished the afternoon going 1-for-2 with a double.
The Vikings will be back in action on Friday as ECSU will host Piedmont International for a doubleheader at the Southpark Softball Complex in Elizabeth City, N.C. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
