ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Claflin University Panthers defeated the Elizabeth City State Vikings 6-1 Thursday afternoon in baseball action at Holmes Field.
The loss gives ECSU its fourth straight defeat and drops their overall record to 4-6 on season.
With the scored knotted at 1-1, Claflin cemented the road victory with a five-run outburst in the top of the 7th. The Vikings committed two errors in that inning and offensively managed only three hits while stranding three runners down the stretch.
In his first loss as a starter this season, Styron Barfield (2-1) pitched seven innings for ECSU striking out eight batters.
