March 18, 2008

Final Stats

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State baseball team picked up their first wins at home with an 8-6 and 12-0 sweep over Baptist Bible College Tuesday afternoon at Holmes Field.

The doubleheader sweep extends the Vikings' win streak to seven games and the game two shutout represented the first time they held a team scoreless this season.

In game one the score was knotted at six until a 2 RBI single by Anthony Archie scored Troy Andrews and Nick Johnson to secure the two run victory. The Vikings were ahead 5-2 before surrendering four runs to the Defenders in the top of the third, giving the visitors their final lead of the afternoon. In the ECSU's half of the third, Brandon Cotton drove in Archie to tie the score.

Game two saw the Vikings step up their defense in their first shutout of the season. The Vikings jumped all over BBC early, scoring four runs in the first inning. ECSU would cross home plate every time they batted with the exception of the third inning. In his first start of the season Thomas Rose went the distance allowing only 3 hits while his teammates offensively tallied a total of 14. Both Stephen Green and Archie hit home runs in game two and Archie finished the day with 8 RBI over the two games.

The Vikings (11-8 overall) will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Durham, NC to take on North Carolina Central University in a non-conference double header. Game time is scheduled for 1:00m at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
